S550QL Structural Steel Chemical Composition

S550QL steel is a structural steel grade with a minimum yield strength of 550 MPa intended for structural applications requiring extra strength and toughness. It is a low-alloyed steel with high yield strength and good weldability properties. The chemical composition of S550QL steel is comprised of the following elements:

• Carbon – 0.22% • Silicon – 0.60% • Manganese – 1.60% • Phosphorus – 0.025% • Sulfur – 0.010% • Chromium – 0.9% • Molybdenum – 0.5% • Nickel – 0.6% • Vanadium – 0.2% • Copper – 0.3%

Mechanical Properties

S550QL steel is used for applications requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio, like heavy machinery and construction. The steel has a minimum yield strength of 550 MPa, a tensile strength of 640 to 770 MPa, and a toughness index of 10. The steel also has an elongation at fracture of 16%.
